Bare’s web crawler
This page describes the crawler used for Bare’s bounded website research and how to reach us about its requests.
Identity
The current research crawler identifies itself as Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BarePreflight/1.0; +https://bare.io/contact). The contact URL in that user agent leads to our contact page. Bare has not published a crawler-only IP range or reverse-DNS directory, and this crawler is not listed as a verified bot by Cloudflare.
What it requests
Depending on the check, Bare may request a site’s robots.txt, homepage and response headers, and look up public DNS records. Research checks do not run page JavaScript. Collected observations support Bare’s website research and may appear in the public directory when they meet its publication rules. See Data sources, attribution and methodology.
Robots rules and request limits
Bare checks robots rules before fetching a page and recognizes the current BarePreflight identity as well as wildcard rules. If you want to block this crawler, add a group such as:
User-agent: BarePreflight
Disallow: /Bare also observes a robots Crawl-delay up to 30 seconds; a larger delay excludes the site from that research check. When a server returns 429 or 503, the crawler places the source IP in cooldown for at least 60 seconds or the supplied Retry-After period, whichever is longer.
Contact and removal requests
For crawl concerns, blocking questions or removal requests, email hello@bare.io. Include the affected hostname and, if available, the request time and response code. The current team contact is monitored through our contact page; no response-time promise has been published.
Bare has not published a crawler IP list, forward-confirmed reverse-DNS records, cryptographic request signatures or third-party bot verification. Do not treat this page as proof of a request’s origin; verify it using your server’s request logs and the user-agent string.
